Board Member Profiles

Kristin Olson, President

Kris Olson Pic

Kris has served on the library board since her appointment and subsequent election in 2007. She served as a member of the Citizens’ Study group for the library prior to the 2006 ballot initiative. Before retirement, she worked in a variety of business and professional positions including the manager of the book department at Marshall Field’s, payroll clerk for Rock Valley College, administrative assistant for an agricultural service company, and volunteer and national level officer for a national women’s sorority .

Michael Holmes, Vice President

Mike Holmes, B.A. University of Minnesota and M.B.A., Northern Illinois University, brings a wealth of budgeting, management, and educational background to the library board. Elected to the board in 2007, Mr. Holmes currently serves as the store manager for a nationally-known crafts and hobby retail establishment.

Donna Riha, Secretary

Donna has lived in Cherry Valley for almost 26 years and been involved in Cherry Valley Festival Days, the Cherry Valley Historical Society, Our Master’s United Methodist Church, B.S.A., G.S.A., Cherry Valley Recreation Committee, as well as a previous stint on the Cherry Valley Library board in 1989. She was appointed and re-elected to the board in 2005. She currently works in the human resource department of a large company in Rockford.

Steven Furness, Treasurer

Newly elected trustee Steve Furness also manages a nationally-known retail store in Loves Park. His business and finance experience are strong assets for the library. His previous board experience includes president of the Rockford Marlins Youth Swim Team.

William Scarpaci

Bill Scarpaci Photo

As the newest member of the board and a new resident of the Cherry Valley area, Bill is also known to many as the interesting Professor of Humanities at Rock Valley College and sometime actor for local productions. With degrees in communication, literature, art, and the humanities, Dr. Scarpaci’s background and experience in a number of campus and professional organizations adds a new dimension to the overall skills and talents of the library board.

Ann Marie Jinkins

Ann Marie Jinkins

Ann Marie holds a B.S. in English and a Master of Library Science from the University of Illinois, as well as an M.S. Ed. from Northern Illinois University. She taught English at Rochelle Township High School for 12 years before becoming the school’s librarian in 2003. Ann Marie has lived in Cherry Valley for more than 10 years.
