How do I place a hold on a book?

If you are looking for a particular book but you find that all copies here at Cherry Valley are checked out, you can place a hold on the book and we will call you when it becomes available for you.

The following is an example:

You can see that the status of all three of Cherry Valley's copies of this book shows that they are not currently available. And, in fact, there are 118 holds on 27 copies (the arrow is pointing to this statement). This hold information reflects all of the copies from all nine libraries in our shared catalog. Be aware that Cherry Valley patrons will get priority on the items that Cherry Valley owns.

To request this book, you would click the green "Request It" button near the top of the screen. If you are not already logged in, you will be taken to the login screen:

Follow the instructions to enter your name, library barcode number and PIN (to create a PIN, simply enter what you would like it to be) and then click "Submit". First time users will then be prompted to confirm their PIN by re-entering it.

You will then come to a screen similar to this:

The first drop down specifies where you would like to pick up the item. You can choose a different library in our system if that is more convenient for you. You do not need to specify a "Cancel" date unless you don't want to wait past a certain date. And be sure to click the "Submit" button! A library staff member will call you when the item is available for you to pick up.
